Toyota is planning to revive its Celica sport coupe in Europe in 2009, a new report finds. The news surfaced — seemingly out of nowhere — in an Automotive News article about placing speed limits on Germany’s autobahns. Toyota stopped selling the Celica in 2005.
The article didn’t reveal any other details or if the Celica would make a return to the U.S. However, a U.S.-bound Celica seems likely since the automaker is trying to instill its lineup with more exciting models.
Earlier this year it was reported that Toyota and Subaru were co-developing a small sports car for the Japanese market but there is no information linking that car to the Europe-bound 2009 Celica.
